Whole Steer

If you are looking to buy a whole cow Lancaster PA, we’ve got you covered! Here on our family farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania we focus on raising high-quality black Angus beef for your family as well as ours. Luke is the fourth generation on our farm, so we have a long history of serving the community and perfecting our skills at raising black Angus beef.

It is a huge honor we take very seriously. If you are looking to buy a whole cow Lancaster, PA from Rock Haven Family Farms, you are choosing the most economical way to purchase beef from our farm! We provide price breaks for our products, and a whole will cost less per pound over a half or quarter. If you purchase A whole steer, on average it will be approximately 520 pounds of beef. We raise black angus beef, and although it is typically referred to as “cow” it is actually black angus steers that are raised specifically for the beef industry. This is a great way to truly fill a freezer full of beef, and we have had lots of family and friends go together and order a whole to split so that they can all receive a great price for their beef, and the quality is much more superior than the typical grocery store beef.

If you are looking to buy a whole cow Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we would be happy to walk through the process with you. The process starts by reaching out to us and letting us know you are interested in placing an order. We have rounds of beef available every couple months, so the sooner we can get your name on the list the better! We try to be as consistent as possible with our rounds, but we do sell out of beef rather quickly so we reserve beef on deposit on a first come first serve basis.

We specialize in custom orders, so for a whole steer you can customize the different cuts in a way that optimizes it for your family. If your family loves ground beef and steaks, and only uses a few roasts, we can turn those extra roasts into different things like chips steak, ground beef, and hamburger patties. There are many different cuts and options, so we would love to go through the order form with you!

If you buy a whole cow in Lancaster, PA from Rock Haven Family Farms, all of our beef is dry aged for 2 weeks at the butcher to ensure tender beef, and with a whole steer purchase there are a few extra benefits! You will be able to guarantee your steak thickness and roast size. There are also a few extra cuts that aren’t always available with a quarter or a half that would be available with a whole steer. You would have the option of adding on skirt steak, and flank steak if that is something you are interested in.

Once your order is finalized we will submit it to the butcher and arrange a pick up time where we can both meet at the butcher shop. Since you are placing a custom order we ask for $400 to reserve a whole steer, and we can take a credit/debit card or a check in the mail. For the final payment we can take cash or a credit/debit card, and since the price is determined by the dressed hanging weight, we will be able to let you know your final balance before you come for your beef. When we meet at the butcher we will go over your order together, look over the beef, settle up on payment, and help you load it in your vehicle. We especially enjoy these beef pick up days since we get to meet each of you in person and get to know our customers more! We truly wouldn’t be able to do what we do without you, and it’s such an honor to serve you! If you are looking to buy a whole cow Lancaster, PA we are one of the highest and most reviewed local farms.

If you are curious as to how much space a whole steer takes up in your freezer, it is typically 10-12 banana boxes. This means it can fill a 24 cubic chest freezer. All of the beef comes frozen and vacuum sealed in clear plastic and is labeled as to the different cuts of each package. Our butcher will flash freeze it in their commercial freezers and then have it boxed up for you when you come. Many people ask about pick up day. When you come meet us to pick up your beef at the butcher you can bring coolers along for the beef if you’d like, but if you live within an hour from the butcher shop the beef doesn’t need to be in a cooler, the cardboard boxes will work just fine. We even have people who make the trip much further than that, and the beef will stay frozen because it is packed together and kept in a commercial freezer.

If you have the freezer space, and you have enough people to eat through it within two years, a whole steer is a great option! We also have quite a few people who will go together on a whole to capture the price savings, and that is another great way to stock your freezer economically. If you and a friend would like to go together to order a whole steer, we can absolutely do that, you would just be responsible for dividing the order between the two of you. We have even had four friends go together on a whole as well so that they could get the best price possible. This works well if everyone wants the same cuts and the same steak thickness, otherwise the orders would be placed separately. If you have any questions about this please don’t hesitate to reach out and I can give you more details about placing a custom order with us, and the timeline for when the beef will be ready. We typically will have our butcher dates about 6 months out, so if you aren’t ready for beef right now, but would like to plan ahead we can get that reserved for you.

If you are looking to buy a whole cow in Lancaster PA we’d be honored to serve you! Please give us a call today and we’d be happy to go over the different options with you!
